持って行く ~ 持って来る

 

夕食の後、ニックは怪我をしたお兄さんの所へ様子を見に行ってくると言っています。かおるはお兄さんに貸すつもりだった本の事を思い出し、その本を「持って行って」と頼みたいようですが、、、

Kaoru: Ok. Oh! Can you do me a favour?

Nick: Sure.
Kaoru: See those books on the coffee table?

Nick: Yes.
Kaoru: Can you bring them to your brother’s house?

Nick: Bring them to my brother’s house?
Kaoru: Yes, he wants to borrow them. So can you bring them?

Nick: Ah. you mean… “Can I take them.”…

 

今回のミステイク

“Can you bring them?”

説明
これは「持って来る」と「持って行く」の違いです。こう覚えましょう。“You bring things here, and take things there.” 　つまり何かを自分のいる所へ持って来る場合は ‘Bring’、何かをどこかへ持って行く場合は‘Take’を使います。
かおるはニックがこれから行く兄の家へ本を持って行ってほしいので、この場合‘Take’が適切です。
例外として未来の出来事を話していて、どの場所にも対象となる人物がいない時は、どちらを使っても間違いではありません。あなたをどの場所に置いて、何を強調したいかで、どちらを使うかが変わってきます。

例文
1.Let’s take the kids to the park this weekend for a picnic.
2.That’s a good idea.We should bring a bottle of wine.(takeでも可）
3.Can you bring me some water, please?
