スイスイ英会話のニックです。私の手にはEssendonフットボールクラブのメンバーズカードがあります。フットボールと言ってもオーストラリアルールのフットボールです。

私は先週仲の良い友人ティムとフットボールの試合に行ってきました。試合を見ている間、スペシャル動画レッスンを撮りました。動画を見て私達が応援する時に使う言葉を聞いてください。

応援する時に使う英語の言葉

Go Demons!　頑張れデイモンズ！

Go Bombers!　頑張れボンバーズ！

Go! – がんばって

Barrack　サポートする。叫んで応援する。

動画の中で私達が使った言葉に気づきましたか。彼は”I don’t get to say that very often because I barrack for Melbourne”　「私はメルボルンをサポートしているからそれをあまり言わない」と言いました。

メルボルンはいつも負けています。そしてティムはメルボルンをサポートしています。ティムはメルボルンチームを応援しているということです。彼はメルボルンチームファンということです。”barrack” は応援するという意味ではオーストラリア英語です。

野球のチームを英語で応援する時は “Go Giants” とか “Go Dragons” と言います。

Now, last week I went to the football with my good friend Tim. While we were watching the game, we made a special video for you guys. So, lets watch the video and I want you to listen to the words we use. OK?

Barrack – to support, to shout out support

In the video did you notice the words we used? We used one word to shout out support. And, that was “Go!”. So, that is probably the same as がんばって。

Tim said something interesting. He said “I don’t get to say that very often because I barrack for Melbourne”. Now, Melbourne is always losing. And Tim barracks for Melbourne. So Tim follows Melbourne – that’s his team. That’s the team he supports. And, “barrack” is Australian English.

So, when you want to support a baseball team in English, you can say “Go Giants” or “Go Dragons”. And if you want to support the best football team in the word, you would have to say “Go Bombers”.
