One of the many things I miss about Japan is the wonderful food. It is winter in Melbourne now and I really want to eat ramen. There is nothing quite like a bowl of miso kome ramen on a cold winter’s day.
I have decided to put myself on a Japanese diet. Since my return to Melbourne, I have found it quite hard to maintain a healthy weight. Australia is very similar to America, in that it has a junk food culture that is causing many health problems for more than two thirds of the country. With our busy lifestyles we often sacrifice healthy eating for convince. This means buying foods that are easy and quick to prepare, but lack nutritional density.
We are paying a high price for this connivence – obesity. Australia is today ranked as one of the fattest nations in the developed world. The prevalence of obesity in Australia has more than doubled in the past 20 years.
Oue situation has become so bad, that many overweight Australians are unable to recognize that they are in fact overweight. Some families eat nothing but junk food.
Watch the video and you’’ll see why it is easy for Australians to allow themselves to eat junk food so often.
I’m at the frozen food section of the supermarket, and you can see why Australians and Americans all have problems with obesity and being overweight, because we a lot of junk food.
We eat a lot of junk food as a part of our regular diet. We‘re also big big fans of ice cream. You can see here we have got lots of different kinds of ice cream(s) available. A lot of variety.
A lot of families will eat ice cream every night after dinner as dessert. And, it just goes on and on. We’ve even got Weight Watches ice cream that apparently can help you lose weight, but I’m not too sure.
You can see the problem with …is a lot of these (ice cream tubs) are on special – 30% off. So, people want to buy them when they are on sale.
And, we will end with some more junk food. And this is famous in Australia, FOUR ‘N TWENTY meat pies!
